Disclosure of Probation Records

The Wells County Probation Department follows rules of confidentiality imposed by local, state, and federal authorities. The records used and maintained by the Wells County Probation Department are the courts’ files and are used for supervising the probation of juvenile and adult offenders, and preparing presentence and predisposition reports: unauthorized use of these records for any other purpose is prohibited. The records contained in the Probation Department are considered temporary collections of information, notes, and memorandums for the courts, and not depositories of official court records; therefore, release of any record contained therein will be released only by authorization of the Wells Circuit Court or Wells Superior Court. Unless otherwise enumerated in this policy, the courts will consider release of any other record when a written request is made to the chief probation officer specifying the record to be released and for what purpose the record will be used. The chief probation officer, or the chief probation officer’s designee, shall be responsible for responding to any agency or person requesting information from the Probation Department files. The Probation Department will generally give written or verbal summarizations of any records contained herein but, at its discretion, may provide copies to a requester of records. Anyone requiring certified copies of the authentic records should make their request to the appropriate agency or person.

Internship Opportunity

The Wells County Probation Department is interested in working with college undergraduate and graduate students, especially if they are residents of Wells County.  This department works with both adult and juvenile jurisdictions, and we can provide to an ambitious student experience in the skills necessary for all most areas of an Indiana probation department.  Students of other disciplines (i.e., computer technology, business, foreign language, education, psychology, etc) will be considered if they can show how their skills may be used in the probation department environment.   Work hours are negotiable, but interns may work up to 35 hours per week for 26 weeks.

Persons interested in internship opportunities may submit a cover letter with the application contained in the link below to the Chief Probation Officer at the Wells County Probation Department.
